"Get Out and Go Hike"
Every Tuesday Evening in April
at Taylorsville MetroPark
Start time: 4:20 - Fast pace
Join Sharon M and members of the Miami Valley Outdoor Club for a brisk Tuesday hike at Taylorsville MetroPark. This fast-paced hike through hilly wooded terrain and along the Great Miami River lasts about an hour. Hike begins promptly at 4:20 so that everyone can finish before dark. Meet at the parking lot near the CCC shelter off Route 40.
The orange trail has a closed section so Sharon is going to do 2 modified loops on the Orange trail at the 4:20 start she will be leading the brisk pace hike. The group will be back at the CCC shelter by 5:20. A second, slower paced hike around the orange trail again will start at 5:20. You may want a head lamp if you come at 5:20 and do the slower loop. It will take about 1 hour 15+ minutes for the second loop. There are many options if you want to do a shorter and/or slower loop
Hope to see you there.

7:00 p.m. Speaker: John Halley
My Bike Trails, A Community Cycling Website
In 2008, John Halley and Bill Otto, created an innovative interactive trail map website using Google-based Maps, color-coded GPS files and geo-coded map markers, and digital pictures and video to provide riders accurate media-rich trail info (parking, parks, restrooms, water, picnic area, etc.) and trail-side businesses (bike shops, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, camping, etc.). So far they have mapped all the trails from Cincinnati-Dayton-Columbus-Indianapolis (including most mountain bike trails), collecting handle bar-mounted digital video (some head cam), pictures, and GPS data.
The maps are free to the public, and My Bike Trails collects revenue through low-cost trail-side businesses ads, and sharing the maps with other websites. MBT has had nearly 100,000 map views in its first year, and achieved high ranks from Google and Yahoo.

Join other MVOCers for a visit to the Miami Valley's newest natural wonder - the 30-acre Woodman Fen which opened to the public in July. Five Rivers MetroParks took seven years to restore this ancient wetland that dates to the last Ice Age 13,000 years ago. The fen, which was formerly used as an illegal dump now has a 1,000-foot boardwalk that winds through the wetland and is the longest in the MetroParks system. This newly opened natural area is the only one like it in Montgomery County.

Outdoor performances repeated at noon & 4:00 p.m.
Combine an afternoon bike ride or hike with a free short play written and performed by MVOCer Bonnie Spitzkeit. Watch a 10-minute play, or two or three, which run contiguously, including Bonnie's script script about non-native flora and fauna...and Shakespeare.
Bring your bike or rent one from the Cone, then grab an ice cream or snack and savor an original play. You can bike or ride before or after the show and maybe even dine on a real meal before heading home. By the way, those inner tubing on the Mad River earlier in the day have time afterward for Bonnie's play in Yellow Springs and a bike ride too.

Location:
Mad River North of Springfield
Description:
It is so simple, yet so pleasant. Bring your innertube. You just drop your innertube into the river, sit down on it and float through a river paradise. Listen to the birds, talk to friends or just perfect your floating technique. If you do not have an innertube maybe we can loan you one, or tell you where to find one. Dress to get wet. Wear shoes that you do not mind getting wet. Do not bring anything onto the river that you will not mind losing. Sunglasses, (not prescription) sunscreen, a change of clothes. We meet in Springfield and travel north. We position cars at the takeout to shuttle drivers back to their cars at the put-in.
The river is spring fed and very clean and cold. It is also shallow for the most part. This event is weather dependent. Thunderstorms or high river levels make this dangerous. So explicit contact information is needed in case of cancellation.
Reservations Required and Waivers for non-members required.
