Twin Creek MetroPark, 8502 Chamberlain Rd.
Description:
Join MVOCer Allan Rettberg Saturday, July 3 for a leisurely 1.5 hour hike at Twin Creek MetroPark.
Allan is very intersted in identifying wildflowers, trees and birds, so bring along your binoculars and/or cameras if you like.
Directions: Follow Rte. 4 south of Germantown, turn on left (east) onto Eby Rd, then left onto Chamberlain Rd. Turn left into park entrance at 8502 Chamberlain Rd. Meet in the parking lot.
About Twin Creek.
This outstanding natural area contains steep, wooded ravines containing mature forest with a diverse understory plant life, extensive areas of second growth forest, floodplain forest, several large managed grasslands, a large scenic pond, and the beautiful Twin Creek. In addition, the MetroPark contains a winding prehistoric Indian mound and a scenic hilltop vista. The MetroPark is linked by the wooded Twin Creek Corridor that connects it to Germantown MetroPark to the north.
Do not miss one of our most popular events of the year, the annual summer picnic and membership meeting on July 6.
SOME CHANGES THIS YEAR
-New location, Paw Paw Shelter at Hills & Dales Metro Park, 2740 S. Patterson Blvd.
-The club will not be providing meat this year, so bring your own hot dogs or burgers and we will provide a hot grill. Also, please bring a dish to share and your own table service.
-Silent Auction. Bring your used, no-longer-needed outdoor gear for a silent auction. Throughout the event members may bid on items and the highest bidder will get the item at the close of the picnic.
We will start grilling about 7:00 p.m., but come anytime after 6:00 p.m. to start nibbling on appetizers and catch up on news.
SECOND ANNUAL T-SHIRT EXCHANGE
Again we will liven up the event with the fun t-shirt exchange. Bring your old or new imprinted,
but washed T -shirts to the picnic. Anything is fair game - outdoor, political, whimsical - any size. We WIll display them on one of the picnic tables for browsing and taking. Bring as many as you want. Take as many as you want. No even exchange necessary. You may contribute one or more, but go home empty handed! Or go home with an armload of new (to you) shirts.

Location:
Mad River North of Springfield
Description:
It is so simple, yet so pleasant. Bring your innertube. You just drop your innertube into the river, sit down on it and float through a river paradise. Listen to the birds, talk to friends or just perfect your floating technique. If you do not have an innertube maybe we can loan you one, or tell you where to find one. Dress to get wet. Wear shoes that you do not mind getting wet. Do not bring anything onto the river that you will not mind losing. Sunglasses, (not prescription) sunscreen, a change of clothes. We meet in Springfield and travel north. We position cars at the takeout to shuttle drivers back to their cars at the put-in.
The river is spring fed and very clean and cold. It is also shallow for the most part. This event is weather dependent. Thunderstorms or high river levels make this dangerous. So explicit contact information is needed in case of cancellation.
Reservations Required and Waivers for non-members required.
